There is no doubt every Wedding we do is unique and special, and every wedding I work on and every couple I come across, always stay in my mind forever. However there are some couples that resonate with you as a person, and remain close to your heart - these couples and their weddings in some way, always come up in conversation when you talk about past weddings and past couples, and are always remembered fondly in some way shape or form for whatever reason.....Wedding Planning on this occasion becomes very personal to me......and Kelly and Mick are one of these couples that will forever resonate with me.
I started the Planning process with Kelly approximately 12 months prior to her Wedding date, and I would have to say, whilst Kelly knew what style she wanted with everything, she was quite happy for me to recommend any suppliers and vendors she still needed to book in for her Wedding Day. She had already picked her Venue, Caterer and Photographer so it was up to me to find everyone else for her. Along the way every Supplier I put forward, Kelly was quite happy to go with; she wasn't fussy, there wasnt a lot of back and forth or umming and ahhhing, she just knew the style she wanted and this to me was my dream Bride. Kelly trusted the process, and trusted my recommendations and therefore trusted that her Wedding Day and the collaboration of amazing Suppliers would be just what she had hoped for. And it was.
Every conversation I had with Kelly about anything to do with her Wedding day was a joy; even when we were overcoming problems, albeit these were actually the most fun conversations if be truthful as we were always on the same page with everything; I felt like I was talking to one of my own friends every step of the way. We would always have a chat, have a laugh and then touch base again in either a week or a month or two months - just like any friendship really ;)
I met Mick for the first time in our Final Planning appointment a couple of months before the Wedding date which is when I meet most Grooms for the first time; and the effervescent personality of Kelly, the dry wit of Mick and the banter between the two of them together, combined with a glass of wine or two made for one of my most favourite Planning Appointments - this couple were my cup of tea, they were my people, and I absolutely loved them both from the moment I met them.
There are two moments I will never forget in relation to Kelly & Mick's Wedding Day, apart from seeing Kelly for the first time at the Church; the first was when I was with Kelly in the private Bridal Retreat in State Library Qld, before the Official entry into the Reception and Reception festivities had begun, and of all things Kelly asked me if I was OK - she said "How are YOU doing" - and I was really taken aback - this day after all was all about her and Mick and the two of them, its the one day you don't need to worry or think about anyone else, and yet she was worried about how I was doing......she was just lovely enough to ask the question....but its not something she would've planned, its just who she is. It was a special moment for me and Ill never forget it.
The second most memorable moment was when Kelly & Mick had a private viewing of the Reception Room prior to guests arrival. The wondrous look on Kellys face I will never forget - it was a special moment and I was just so happy we had created a Reception space exactly as she had hoped for. And he may not admit it but I know Mick was equally impressed.
Im always a bit sad when Wedding days are over; it means the Planning with this particular couple is over; the many conversations, phone calls, meetings etc are no more. But I am always left with one thing time after time; wonderful memories with the couple, including the role I played in creating the perfect wedding day for them, just as they imagined.
I hope all Wedding Planners get to experience at least once, a "Kelly & Mick" couple - they are the best kind after all.
With much love,
